Kyu and I have been thinking about Growth a lot lately.  Growing our family, growing our team, growing our membership base with NAPCP, growing our client base, etc etc.

The list of what we want to grow keeps growing….

But with Growth comes the enormous challenge of executing it all beautifully and seamlessly, without disturbing our peace.

The above thought by Norman Vincent Peale really resonates with me now as we face our current challenges.  My friends know me as an eternal optimist – it’s a character trait I hope to pass down to my children.  But now more than ever, I’m working hard to shoulder this positive energy for our team as we continue to grow.  I love how this quote really wraps it all up nicely for me….

I had the immense pleasure of hosting a sweet baby shower for my sweet baby sister last weekend. Irene has loved babies and wanted one of her own ever since I could remember. I think she would have stolen Lyon from me, had she not known I would have hunted her down and beat her silly 😉 And needless to say, she’s been the most amazing Auntie to my little boy a sister could ask for. He shrills with utter delight at the sound of her name, “Aiyee” (Auntie in Chinese).

When Irene and Benji found out they were expecting, we went straight to work on their baby shower! They shared with me their love of “Twinkle Twinkle LIttle Star”…. a song I sing every night to Lyon for bedtime, so it became the perfect theme for us to work around.

My side-kick designer Kristen Smith and I collaborated quite a bit on the details of the event. When I begin drawing out the details from scratch for any event, I think my mind goes wild and I reach an all-time creative high. Event planning and design is probably my 2nd joy after photography. I love designing something from scratch and seeing ideas that we have come to live. Irene’s shower was no exception.

Here are a few details from the event that I adore:

We created a special backdrop for our star themed dessert area. I love the way it turned out.

The balloon backdrop came out perfectly…

Some additional details that we loved… All of the food, decor and flowers were DIY elements that we all worked together on. I am especially proud of the star cheese cake desserts – so pretty and delicious!

    Hi,
I am thinking of throwing my sister the same baby shower theme. How did you make the balloon backdrop and what does the frame say and the small bags or what did you put inside of them?
    Thanks,

People often ask me what our folio books are all about. Aside from the quality and the craftsmanship of each folio book we deliver to our clients, I put a lot of effort into custom designing each book as the child’s own little story. I have a little notepad in my head during sessions, and when I’m capturing moments with my camera, I’m also recording the things they say and the emotions that are surrounding us.

Overtime, I want my families to cherish our books more and more. We want their children to pass down their books to their children, so it’s very important that I accurately capture and illustrate in my designs who this child is.

Here are some favorite spreads of a recent design I created for the Rodbell family. I combined photos taken from their daughter Penny’s First Year, and designed a story of her growing, and maturing, and turning into the happy and very loved little girl that she is. My layouts are simple and clean. I love white space and making the photos pop. I also love incorporating just the right words to complete their story.

I got pretty lucky in the husband department, and I couldn’t possibly ask for more. But…… if you twisted my arm and asked me what would make a lady swoon, any of these gift items would do the trick this Valentine’s Day!
